Get to Know Us!
The Children's Museum of Rochester tries to get out and about in the community to raise awareness of our project, to raise funds for our project, to showcase the educational fun that children's museums can provide, and to answer questions about where we're headed.
At appearances throughout the summer, we have been showcasing our new interactive playhouse, dubbed "CMR Under Construction," that was built especially for CMR by Weis Builders. The interactive playhouse teaches kids about construction by giving them hands-on opportunities that include laying carpet or tiles, painting walls with water, using magnetized siding, and connecting circuits to make a doorbell ring.
Recent community appearances and events have included:
- Participation in ArtiGras/ArtiKids and the Strollathon on August 22 in downtown Rochester.
- "Incredible Family Fun Night", a fundraising event at the History Center on August 14! We estimate that more than 600 supporters showed up to enjoy music, magic, crazy hair-dos, and a movie with us, and we raised close to $4,000 for the Children's Museum of Rochester. One wonderful 9-year-old boy even put $70 from his own piggy bank--which he saved up from birthday gifts and doing chores for his grandma--into our donation bags. Thank you all for your generous donations and valuable support! Together, we'll get this dream off the ground!
- Participation in the "Rock Your Choice Art Auction" on July 24 at the Eagles Club (917 15th Ave. SE). The CMR was one of three non-profit beneficiaries of this wonderful event and raised a few hundred dollars!
- An exhibition of our "CMR Under Construction" interactive playhouse and exhibit at Rochesterfest's Family Fun Night on June 24. Check out our photos of swarms of kids enjoying the playhouse!
- A float in Rochesterfest's Grand Parade on June 26.
- A display of our "CMR Under Construction" interactive playhouse and exhibit at Childcare Resource and Referral's Family Fun Night at Graham Arena on May 5, 2009 from 5 to 8 p.m.
- The debut of our "CMR Under Construction" interactive playhouse at the Aldrich Memorial Nursery School Carnival on May 2, 2009 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. See our photos of this awesome exhibit!
