Testimonial - Mary Clark

Board Member Mary Clark (shown with sons Lucas, Kyle, Joshua, and husband Ed) says that the museum will provide Rochester with a program to engage families that is grounded in children development.

"My husband Ed and I have three terrific boys: Lucas, Kyle and Joshua and I have worked as an Occupational Therapist at the Mayo Clinic for the last 11 years. As a mother and occupational therapist I understand just how important it is for children to engage in the world around them through interactive play and self directed exploration. Children require hands on learning in order to feed their inquisitive minds.

I became involved with the Children's Museum of Rochester because it was a cause that I believed in. You hear the phrase "Rochester is a great place to raise children" so often, however, we have something missing... a children's museum. So many other cities of our size have museums established and it's time for Rochester to join the rankings.

This museum will provide Rochester with a program to engage families that is grounded in child development. A setting such as this would make it easier for children to learn and retain the information. The children's museum will also allow children and families with disabilities and medical concerns, visiting the Mayo Clinic, to come to the museum and get lost in the fun and "just be kids".

The museum will give families the gift of quality time that is difficult to come by today, and this would offer parents an ideal opportunity to engage fully with their children. As parents we are our child's first teacher and best teacher. The museum will give kids another great environment for hands on learning, another great Rochester alternative to the world of TV and video games!"
