Rochester Needs a Children’s Museum.
Play. Explore. Discover. Imagine. Create. Great things happen at children’s museums, and those great things have long inspired a group of Rochester parents, educators, and businesspeople to follow their dream of establishing a children’s museum in our community.
The vision is simple: the Children’s Museum of Rochester (Minnesota) will inspire and illuminate, entertain and inform, stimulate and educate. Unlike more traditional museums, the Children’s Museum of Rochester will be a lively, family-friendly campus where kids learn through play. Interactive activities and exhibits will be designed specifically to develop kids’ gross and fine motor skills and to enhance children’s creativity, curiosity, and unique learning styles. Our goal is to stimulate learning through hands-on experiences.
The Children’s Museum of Rochester will be kid-centered, but parent-approved. We want to be the place where you see a light-bulb of understanding suddenly flash for your child as she uses basic engineering skills to build in a construction exhibit. Or the place where you watch an expression of awe form on your child’s face as he experiments with the laws of motion with the help of simple machines.
Join us for 'Incredible Family Fun Night': The CMR is hosting a fundraising event on August 14 at the History Center of Olmsted County that includes music by Jake Donze, magic by Bob Miller, catering by Johnny Mangouras (for purchase), inflatables courtesy of Party Zone Inflatables, a free movie ("The Incredibles") starting at dusk, crazy hair-dos by Little Dudes-n-Divas, and much more. Check out our fun poster promoting this event for details.
Read all about it!: Read the front page article about the CMR that was in the Rochester Post-Bulletin on June 25.
Help us find a home: Our goal is to open the Children's Museum of Rochester by the end of 2010. Currently, we are hoping to house the museum in an existing building in Rochester that we could rent or buy for a bargain. Check out our FAQs for more information about our search for a location, and please send your ideas to: info@childrensmuseumrochester.org.
